Family Vacation Rentals
Slow down with a week on the beach.
Sometimes, the simplest family vacations are the best. As life forces us to all move so quickly with work and activities, it is so nice to just sit down and spend quality time with our families. Beach rentals are a great way to bring people together for a family vacation, and they are a good choice for individual families, multiple families and extended family vacations.
There are several things to consider when choosing the perfect beach rental for your family vacation.
- Space: Obviously, you need to consider space as far as bedrooms and bath rooms. This is particularly important when traveling with multiple families.
Beach location: Next, you want to consider how far from the beach you are willing to be located. If you have small children, it is nice to be within walking distance. This makes it easier to get back and forth to the beach house for snacks, naps, etc.
- Amenities: Most beach rentals also have pools either on property, or a community pool that you can use. There are a wide variety of amenities that are available in beach rentals including: game rooms, hot tubs, tennis courts, golf, and theatre rooms.
- Budget: Lastly, and sometimes most importantly, is your budget. There are beach rentals available in all price ranges. This is particularly important if you are traveling with multiple families. It is imperative that you set your budget first! That way, all parties involved are on the same page, and there is no chance for an uncomfortable situation later.
While there are many beachfront destinations available, I’ve found the Southeast has a wonderful variety of beach rental vacations to choose from. My featured destination is Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Family vacations are built on memories of laughs, smiles and time together. Hilton Head has been described as a “blissful, take you back to childhood fun” destination. It has 12 miles of beautiful, sandy beaches, world renowned golf, and prestigious tennis. You can also enjoy kayaking the lagoon, bike riding to the lighthouse, jet skiing, deep sea fishing, para-sailing, and sand castle building galore! So many things to fill a lazy or active sunny day! Travel Tip:
Getting there is not really half the fun, particularly if the kids in tow are not happy. Plan ahead by structuring some activities during the travel time. Discuss your trip and planned activities with the kids to give them something to look forward to. Even a brief description of the landscape through which you will be driving or over which you will be flying will be enough to entice many children into making lists of sites, animals or other points of interest. Portable DVD players help the time pass, and packing a game bag in advance is always a good idea - include cards, game books, crayons and paper. Airline meals do not always stack up against the food children (or adults) would prefer to eat. Packing light, fun snacks and drinks is a good idea when flying or driving.
